Apple Enters New Era as John Ternus Takes Over as CEO
Apple Inc. has officially announced that John Ternus, the company’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, has replaced Tim Cook as CEO. Cook will move to the role of Executive Chairman.
Ternus, 55, has spent over two decades at Apple, rising from mechanical engineer to leading all hardware engineering. He spearheaded Apple’s transition from Intel chips to custom silicon and oversaw the development of the Vision Pro headset.
Cook, who took over from Steve Jobs in 2011, grew Apple’s market capitalization from approximately $350 billion to over $3 trillion. However, the company has faced criticism for falling behind rivals in generative AI.
The leadership change comes as Apple faces intense competition in AI services and mixed reality markets. Analysts expect Ternus to leverage his hardware expertise to develop more competitive on-device AI capabilities.
