Cook Leaves Ternus With Pipeline of 10 Major New Product Categories at Apple

According to an exclusive Bloomberg report, departing Apple CEO Tim Cook has left his successor John Ternus with an ambitious product development pipeline spanning 10 entirely new product categories. The disclosure has sparked intense speculation about Apple’s future product strategy.

The 10 Product Categories

According to people familiar with the matter, the 10 product categories include:

  1. Next-generation AR/VR headset — A lighter, more affordable version building on the Vision Pro platform
  2. Smart home control hub — A new generation center device integrating the HomeKit ecosystem
  3. AI-driven wearable health device — A next-generation health monitoring platform beyond the Apple Watch
  4. Foldable iPhone — Apple’s first foldable phone, expected to feature a unique hinge design
  5. Home AI robot — A prototype exploring the home service robot category
  6. Apple automotive technology platform — While the full vehicle project has been restructured, autonomous driving technology continues in development
  7. AI-enhanced Mac Pro — An AI computing workstation targeting professional users
  8. Wireless charging ecosystem — A true long-range wireless charging solution
  9. Satellite communication service expansion — A global satellite-based communication network with zero dead zones
  10. AI personal assistant hardware — A dedicated hardware device for Siri’s AI upgrades

Ternus’s Hardware DNA

John Ternus is Apple’s veteran hardware engineering leader with over 20 years of experience in hardware design at the company. In his final all-hands memo before stepping down, Cook stated: “I have full confidence in Ternus’s product intuition and execution capability.”

Unlike Cook, who excelled in supply chain management and operations, Ternus is a pure “product person.” Analysts believe this shift in leadership style could lead Apple to place greater emphasis on product innovation over operational efficiency.

Market Outlook

If Ternus can launch most of these 10 product categories within his first five years as CEO, he would become one of the most productive CEOs in Apple’s history. By comparison, Cook’s tenure saw the launch of the Apple Watch, AirPods, and Vision Pro.

Wall Street reacted positively to the news. A Morgan Stanley analyst noted in a report: “The depth of Apple’s product pipeline is severely underestimated by the market. Ternus’s hardware background means the conversion rate from concept to product will be significantly higher than the industry average.”

Apple plans to gradually announce timelines for some of these new products within the next 12 months, with the market expecting to see the first products debut at this fall’s launch event.
