[Brief]
According to CoinDesk, SBI Crypto, a cryptocurrency subsidiary of Japanese financial giant SBI Group, announced it will officially close its Bitcoin mining pool operations on July 31, 2026. The pool currently controls approximately 2% of the global Bitcoin network hashrate, making it one of the largest mining pools in Asia.
SBI Crypto has notified all participating miners to redirect their hashrate to other pools before the deadline, after which the pool will stop accepting new contributions. This move is seen as a signal of strategic adjustment by traditional Japanese financial institutions in the crypto mining space. Analysts note that with Bitcoin mining rewards halving post-halving, smaller mining pools face severe profitability challenges, and industry consolidation is accelerating.
