Ukraine has launched a new round of strikes targeting Russia’s critical oil infrastructure, including multiple tankers from Russia’s so-called shadow fleet.
According to CBS News, the attacks targeted key Russian oil transport and storage facilities. The shadow fleet refers to the covert armada of oil tankers assembled by Russia to circumvent Western sanctions, which has long been a focus of international concern.
Analysts note that striking shadow fleet tankers will directly undermine Russia’s ability to evade sanctions and could further impact its war funding. However, this move may also provoke a stronger response from Moscow.
Russia has previously warned multiple times that any attack related to its oil exports would be considered a serious escalation. The international community is closely monitoring the situation.
