US President Donald Trump has signed executive orders banning imports of selected Canadian products including alcoholic spirits, some dairy goods and motorbikes, with the measures taking effect on September 29. Canadian Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc called the latest US measures “unjustified” and said Canada would work to protect its workers, families and businesses. According to UN data compiled by Trading Economics, in 2025 Canadian exports of alcoholic spirits to the US were worth USD 687 million, dairy products USD 269 million and motorbikes USD 90 million. Capital Economics chief North America economist Stephen Brown noted that the measures cover roughly 0.25 percent of Canadian exports to the US. Officials on both sides have said they would like to strike a trade deal but no new talks have been scheduled since negotiations collapsed in late August.
