Ukraine Hit by Major Strikes Before Ceasefire Proposal

According to Deutsche Welle, Russia launched a new wave of large-scale military strikes on Ukraine just hours before the Ukrainian government presented a ceasefire proposal, killing dozens of people.

The attacks came at a critical moment for diplomatic mediation. Ukraine had previously put forward a ceasefire initiative aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the years-long conflict. However, the intense Russian offensive just as the ceasefire proposal was about to be submitted dramatically escalated tensions.

The strikes caused significant civilian casualties and severe infrastructure damage. Local officials said rescue teams were working at full capacity to conduct search and rescue operations, but the ongoing conflict made rescue efforts extremely difficult.

The international community strongly condemned the attacks. Several European countries called for an immediate cessation of violence and urged both sides to return to the negotiating table. The UN Secretary-General reiterated calls for all parties to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilian safety.

The incident underscores the fragility of the peace process in the Ukraine conflict. Despite ongoing efforts to push ceasefire negotiations, the actual situation on the battlefield continues to deteriorate. Analysts point out that achieving a truly lasting ceasefire still faces numerous challenges.
