Ukrainian forces are increasingly deploying AI-powered drone systems to precisely strike convoys supplying Russian troops on the front lines, BBC reports — marking a new phase in drone warfare.

Unlike traditional remotely-piloted drones, these AI systems can autonomously identify target types during flight — distinguishing between military trucks, fuel tankers, and civilian vehicles — and prioritize high-value military targets. The systems use machine learning algorithms to analyze vehicle shapes, sizes, and movement patterns, significantly improving strike accuracy.

Ukrainian military officials say the AI-assisted strike model has significantly degraded Russian rear-area supply capabilities. Frontline Russian units report frequent disruptions in ammunition and fuel deliveries, directly impacting their operational effectiveness.
