Apple is planning to introduce a “Create a Pass” feature in the Wallet app for its upcoming iOS 27, according to a Bloomberg report on May 4. The feature will allow users to convert any QR code or barcode into a custom wallet pass, significantly expanding the utility of Apple’s digital wallet.

According to MacRumors, the functionality will enable users to design and manage various types of digital passes, including loyalty cards, event tickets, coupons, and transit cards. Users will simply need to scan or input QR/barcode information, and the system will automatically generate a corresponding digital pass stored in the Wallet app.

Macworld analysis suggests that this feature could significantly lower the barrier for merchants to integrate with Apple’s ecosystem. Previously, businesses needed to go through a complex developer process to issue passes in Apple Wallet. The new feature will allow everyday users to directly “digitize” physical QR codes, potentially becoming a key differentiator for Apple in its competition with Google Pay and other digital wallets.

CNET reported that Apple’s move aims to turn every QR code into a potential wallet entry point. This strategy aligns with Apple’s broader push toward contactless payments and digital identity management in recent years.
