ByteDance Arranges $29.6 Billion Loan as It Accelerates AI Infrastructure Push
CoinDesk reported on September 14, citing people familiar with the matter, that ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has finalized a syndicated loan totaling $29.6 billion, provided by a consortium of international banks, with the structure covering both a term loan and a revolving credit facility. The size makes it one of the largest single financing transactions completed by a global tech company in 2026, exceeding the annual capital-expenditure plans previously disclosed by several U.S. AI companies. ByteDance stated that the proceeds will primarily be used for AI infrastructure, high-performance compute build-out, data-center expansion and the training of next-generation large models. The financing reflects the fact that, at a critical juncture when the global AI race has entered a compute arms-race phase, China’s leading tech companies are leveraging large-scale debt to ramp up compute and infrastructure investment in a bid to maintain an advantageous position in the next-generation AI landscape.
