The 2026 F1 Miami Grand Prix concluded on May 3 with 21-year-old Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli claiming his second career race victory, cementing his status as one of the most promising young talents on the grid.

The race was filled with drama. McLaren’s Lando Norris finished in second place, while teammate Oscar Piastri charged through the field to take third. Piastri said after the race that the future looks bright for McLaren, with the team showing strong performance in both car setup and race strategy.

However, the biggest talking point of the day centered on Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. Leclerc had a strong race for much of the event, crossing the finish line in sixth place. But on the final lap, repeated track limit violations led the stewards to hand him a 20-second time penalty, dropping him from sixth to eighth. This meant Lewis Hamilton and Franco Colapinto, who finished behind him, moved up to score points in his stead.

Leclerc accepted the penalty graciously after the race, taking full responsibility for the error. I put a very strong race in the bin, and it is all on me, he said. Meanwhile, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen also received a 5-second penalty following his on-track battles with Leclerc during the race.
