Amazon (AWS) has announced a partnership with Coinbase and Stripe to build payment infrastructure for AI agents. This collaboration marks a significant shift from AI agents as experimental tools to autonomous economic participants.

According to CoinDesk, AWS’s “AI wallet” will allow AI agents to purchase API services, web content, and other online services. Future versions will support more complex transaction scenarios such as hotel bookings.

This move aligns with CoinDesk’s reporting that “DeFi is going mainstream.” eToro CEO Yoni Assia stated at Consensus that DeFi and its underlying technology have already proven themselves at scale, and AI agents will become mainstream adopters of DeFi.

BNB Chain founder CZ also proposed that BNB Chain is the ideal payment rail for automated transactions between AI agents, hinting at a potential revival of Binance.US to give American users access to global crypto liquidity.

Currently, 20 banks and tech giants are queued to issue stablecoins through Anchorage Digital. Since the passage of the GENIUS Act, Anchorage has won every single large stablecoin issuance mandate.

On April 30, 2026, financial services platform Stripe officially launched Link at its annual conference — a digital wallet specifically built for the AI era. The wallet allows users to connect various payment methods, track spending, manage subscriptions, and importantly, integrate their AI agents so they can securely perform tasks like shopping, paying for reservations, and buying tickets on their behalf.

Core Features

Link is now available on web, iOS, and Android. Users can connect payment methods including credit cards, bank accounts, crypto wallets, and buy now/pay later services. The wallet also stores billing and shipping information for online checkout.

It offers spending tracking and subscription management — even updating the payment method that services have on file. Link also provides 90 days of protection on eligible purchases from select merchants.

AI Agent Integration

Link’s most innovative feature is its ability to integrate with autonomous AI agents. As more people experiment with autonomous AI, Apple has reportedly sold out of its base model Mac Minis — a popular platform for running always-on AI agents.

However, many users rightly hesitate at the idea of giving AI agents raw payment information. Link solves this security concern through an OAuth authentication flow: users grant their agent access to the wallet, the agent creates a spend request with context, and waits for user approval before executing the payment.

Future Roadmap

Currently, Link supports traditional payment methods, but Stripe says support for agentic tokens, stablecoins, and other payment types is coming “soon.” Future updates will allow users to set their own spending limits and choose when agents can act without requiring individual approval.

Stripe also introduced “Issuing for agents,” enabling users to issue virtual cards for agents to make autonomous purchases with real-time authorization, spending controls, and full transaction visibility.
