Walmart has warned that American consumers are cutting back on discretionary spending as rising gasoline prices squeeze household budgets, signaling growing economic pressure on everyday Americans.

The retail giant reported a noticeable decline in spending among low- to middle-income consumers, particularly in automotive-related categories and non-essential food items. Higher fuel costs are directly reducing disposable income.

Economists note that consumer spending accounts for nearly seventy percent of US GDP. Walmart serves as a key barometer of economic health, and a sustained pullback could significantly drag on overall growth.

Additionally, rising fuel costs are pushing up logistics and supply chain expenses, which may cascade into higher consumer prices and renewed inflationary pressure.
