Lawyer Targets Tether for $344M in Frozen USDT

Charles Gerstein, the lawyer who previously led efforts to recover Arbitrum crypto assets, has filed a motion asking a federal judge to order Tether to transfer OFAC-frozen USDT — allegedly linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard — to victims holding unpaid terrorism judgments.

The frozen USDT is valued at approximately $344 million. If granted by the court, this would mark the first time frozen crypto assets are directly distributed to victims through judicial proceedings, potentially setting a significant legal precedent.

ECB President Christine Lagarde warned that large stablecoins like Tether and USDC pose financial stability risks. She cautioned Europe should not simply replicate the US approach to digital currency.
